Software Freedom Day Events Around the World
Software Freedom Day is a global happening – around the world different events are taking place to draw attention to the topic of free and open source software, its benefits and deployment possibilities. In Hamburg, Germany for instance a trade fair in the City-House Bambeck will give local companies the opportunity to present their open source products and business models. In Pretoria, South Africa, the Department for Science and Technology is hosting an event with lectures, live programming and live installations, and in the Philippino town Angeles Software Freedom Day is highlighted by conference including workshops and a programmer's competition.
Kampala, Uganda will be hosting a special event on September 19th at the Software Incubator Makarere University for Software Freedom Day 2009. Their aim is to host the biggest international celebration and outreach event for Software Freedom globally with hundreds of teams from all around the world participating! The event will include competitions and demonstrations of Free and Open Source Software and everyone is invited to come and find out about the benefits of Free and Open Source Software. Sponsors and organisers include a number of local and global organisations and companies, including EACOSS; Linux Solutions, FSF Free Software Foundation, Red Hat Fedora, and Canonical Ubuntu.
