South African FOSS Business Model ToT Group takes a break and Joins South Africa to celebrate MANDELA's birthday

18 July 2009, Soweto, Johannesburg . The South African FOSS Business Model ToT delegation group took a deserved break after their first week in the two week training pro gramme held at the University of Witwatersrand. The first week of the training pro gramme kicked off at a high note and kept the delegates very busy both in the workshop and adapting to their new '' training home'' . The first week so the delegates being hosted to a dinner by InWEnt. The opening dinner gala was held at Ageda restaurant in Green side ,Johannesburg. The delegates were treated to some delicious Portuguese food. '' The food was great and the atmosphere was perfect for networking and meeting everyone ,including the sponsors and project partners'' said one delegate after the dinner. The event was also attended by Ms Thandi Mabvundula from OSISA and Milton Aineruhanga from FOSSFA,Prof D Keats and Mr N Mabaso ,both from the University of Witwatersrand. OSISA and FOSSFA are the main funding partners in ICT@innovation with other training partners, UNI-MERIT and AITI-KACE also taking part in the dinner. Subsequent to the Opening dinner, was the workshop proceedings. This saw the delegates covering an intense syllabi ranging from General FLOSS concepts to Communicating FLOSS in the first week. '' I found the module on Communicating FLOSS well packed and delivered. It was great and what a learning experience'' said George Nyambuya, ICT@innovation Project Coordinator. It was after this laborious week of F/LOSS Business discussion that the delegates took a break and got on a tour to learn more about South Africa. The delegates were taken on a tour to SOWETO. The Soweto tour saw the delegates pass through one of the major soccer stadia for the 2010 FIFA World Cup,the Orlando Soccer Stadium . The group had a chance to admire the beautiful work that has been done in preparation of this major event. The delegates were then driven off to the Hector Pietersen Museum,were they had a chance to learn more about South Africa and its History. The bulk of the time was spent at this Museum as they got so much interested in the displays and information in this Museum. It was after the Hector Pietersen Museum that the delegates were then whisked to Mandela's house in Soweto. The beginning of Mandela's birthday celebration for the group,started after this visit. They had a quick look at MANDELA house, as they were now in a rush to join the birthday celebration that were taking place in Newton. On their way to the MANDELA's birthday celebrations in Newton,the group passed through a local Soweto restaurant were they were treated to a variety of delicious African dishes. It was after the delicious lunch at SAKUMUZI RESTURANT, (a few meters away from MANDELA's house) that the group joined the birthday celebrations at Newton. The group was treated to South Africa music and dance in Newton. The group joined the rest of people in song and dance as South Africa celebrated MANDELA's 91st birthday.
