E-Learning Courses: Open Source & More IT for African Business

InWEnt/it@ab has released a series of advanced e-learning courses on Information Technology (IT)- "Open Source & More IT for African Business" focussing on the needs of business related IT consultancy in Africa.

ict@innovation: Call for training institutions for FOSS Business Models

ict@innovation is currently gathering a group of African training institutions that are interested in joining in the regional trainings on African Business Models based on Free and Open Source Software (FOSS). The training institutions can be universities, vocational training centers, private training organizations or consultancy businesses in Southern and East Africa in the field of IT and/or business. Participants are expected to integrate a course on FOSS business models in Africa in their training portfolio.

Kenyan skunkworks@innovation for business

On Saturday 4 th October we held Kenya's first ICT Open Day dubbed “Skunkworks@innovation”. The event was very successful in bring together technical people, business community, and government in one room to sample local innovations and explore business opportunities therein. Over twenty local companies that submitted their demo products briefs and qualified were allocated presentation tables/slots.

Component A Scenario: National Follow-Up Trainings

* Sustainability of the programme is ensured by creating a community of practice around the development of the course materials and keeping them closely involved throughout the course of the programme == National Follow-Ups == * After the completion of the regional trainings and the „Train the Trainer“ phase of the programme, a roll out on a national level into the partaking countries is planned. * The trainers partaking in the regional training courses will need to be equipped to act as multipliers in their own countries.

== Coordination and Implementation of Regional Trainings == * Selection and sub-contracting of co-trainers in regional trainings (possibly some of them are also part of the content creation community) * Invitations to apply for the trainings (through already identified contacts and an open call for participants) * Selection of the training institutes and trainers, that apply to participate in regional trainings + definition of selection criteria. Component A Scenario: Course Development

Creating the content for Pillar A should be understood as a joint learning process and will be one of the core programme activities. Aim of this line of action is to host an inclusive content creation process, involving regional experts, in order to build an expert community and build local ownership for the programme. == Preparation == * An information base on African FOSS business models, possible partners and beneficiaries is being prepared by the programme management team. * Research of additional case studies of African FOSS business models.
