While responding to the blog post by Evans Ikua's from Lanet Consulting, the leading Linux consultancy in Nairobi Kenya, I started to raise a point around building community but decided to turn it into a blog post instead :)

More often than not you are a FOSS business owner because you feel really passionate about the technology and community and you're not just there for the money.

Preparing for Software Freedom Day 17 Sep 2011

Just a quick blog to let all interested parties in Johannesburg and Pretoria know what we are planning for Software Freedom Day on the 17th of September this year.

Its going to be tight as we have left it rather late to organise but I am sure with community involvement we will be able to organise something :)

How to get involved in planning!

In keeping with the SFD approach we are using their wiki to plan our event. In order to accommodate both the Jozi and Pretoria communities we are planning to hold the event in Midrand, hence the wiki link below.

“The uptake of FOSS by the market is improving every day” An Interview with Evans Ikua

Evans Ikua has been actively promoting the use of FOSS and FOSS certification in Africa. As ict@innovation's certification manager, but also as a member of  the Linux Professional Association (LPA), an organisation promoting professionalism and acceptance of FOSS, and CEO of LANet Consulting, a company that trains entrepreneurs in the use of FOSS, Evans has actively advanced the use of FOSS and FOSS certification in Kenya for a number of years.

STAM FBT Training - Kampala Uganda, May 2011.

Steven Kaweesa is a very soft spoken man, and his co-director does not live in the country. Steven runs School of Training and Management (STAM) as a Technical branch of a bigger Social Development Institute established at Nsamizi, in a remote South western part of Uganda. STAM rode the high winds when it partnered with England's NCC to issue international certifications, but over time, the steam has run low.
