My FOSS related Project(s):
Sean Grant is a son, husband, father, brother, trainer and friend, who happens to enjoy using Free Open Source Software, and most digital / electronic gadgets. Sean has been working with Free Open Source Software (FOSS) for a number of years, and has mastered a number of different applications, such as Mambo, Joomla, Moodle and osCommerce, amongst others that are not necessarily FOSS but work rather nicely too, such as Google Applications, MindMeister, SalesForce, FreshBooks and a growing number of web & mobile applications. While employed as technician at the University of Zululand, Sean tutored students in website computing modules, which enables them to develop and manage websites using one of these systems. As the Moodle webmaster at UZ, which was in the pilot phase of implementation, he was actively engaged in a research project, with colleagues looking at the use of OSS in higher education. Sean loves to help clients find, customise and implement the best open source solution for their particular activities and interests, empowering them to be the web enterprise manager for their organisation, drawing on personal experience and a diverse range of practical challenges faced by our clients. Working with an agile network of professionals, he delivers website development, management, promotion, training, support & consulting services for those who do not have the time nor the inclination to take a hands on approach. More and more an enterprise architect is needed to solve increasingly complex business challenges using new media & socially innovative technologies., and Sean actively consulting in this capacity as well as an advocate for the Joomla! CMS and the professional FOSS industry. As the founder of the Joomla! SA Portal, and the course developer & lead trainer for Learn Joomla! and SA Joomla! User Group initiatives Sean has helped to pioneer initiatives such as the Joomla!Day events locally with a group of like minded individuals, who see value as more important than control. Onto Orphans and Vulnerable Children, Sean and Mel (his treasured wife) started an Orphan Network for Southern Africa, and pioneered a non-profit organisation to enable and support the growing incidence of abandoned babies, known fondly as iKhaya Likababa. Sean is a lamp who hopes to shed some light on matters of technology, adoption and other things that count to make a positive difference to those encountered upon this brief journey.
I am looking for:
Participation in professionalising FOSS through training, assessment, certification & accreditation. Establishing local user groups within FOSS communities.
